This is How Useful Podcast Reviews Are

-xXx- My SEO Journey

I have never looked at ratings or reviews before checking out a podcast.

@buzzsprout recently put out a video that says podcast ratings and reviews are very important: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koD6mJ4TEq8

@JackRhysider has said, not-so-much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki97gvJPzhI?t=

On Apple Podcasts, ratings are shown on the specific podcast page, if you click through, but not if you are just browsing through a list. It doesn’t appear that you can sort on ratings, or filter to see only shows with just four or more stars, etc. I tend to favor recent podcasts, especially newsworthy ones, but there doesn’t appear to be a way to show only podcasts with a recent (~six months?) releases, either.

No way to sort or filter on ratings

If you click into a specific podcast without any context about how it’s rated, it does show you the rating average and the number of ratings.

Then, you can scroll down to read what people say, generally. But, if I’m looking for a new podcast, am I doing that? Are you?

I think the reviews are a nice, public, way for people to give you (hopefully) attaboys. It could be good for giving feedback to the show runner. But, for listeners, they don’t seem to be very useful.
